French Wheaten & Blue Wheaten Marans
Wheaten Marans eggs at the CHB show November 2013
Wheaten Marans are a color variation of French Marans, their feathers are a pretty light"wheaten" color, however their legs are still lightly feathered and they produce a stunning dark chocolate brown colored egg.
These birds are friendly and active, roosters are very calm and can co-habitate nicely with eachother. They are inquisitive and a beautiful addition to any flock. Our flock now contains ONLY pure Cree Farms birds, and would be excellent to add to your existing flock of Cottage Hill line of birds.
The photos below show the early diffreence between pullets and cockerals. The pullet (first photo on the left) has light brown feathers. The cockeral has dark feathers (middle photo). The third photo shows the difference between the two at 10 days old.
The photo of the two eggs were taken when the girls started laying. These eggs are AS DARK as our black copper marans eggs! You will be hard pressed to find a FWM flock in Canada that lays eggs darker then these. The egg color has not changed since these girls started laying, and they have been laying large eggs from day one. This line of wheaten marans has laid consistently dark eggs for over 2 years, not only are they still dark in size, we are still getting 3-4 eggs from our 5 hens through the spring, summer and early fall months. They have really impressed us!
Blue Wheaten Marans Due to terrible difficulty in trying to track down new bloodlines to diversify our gene pool we have undertaken a project to create Blue Wheaten Marans. We have worked diligently to ensure the colour of the egg does not suffer from this project, and have been working under the advisory of some well known marans breeders in the USA. As of 2017 we are successfully hatching consistently coloured blue wheaten, wheaten and splash wheaten chicks with incredible vigour and great growth rates.
For 2018 we will be combining our 2 flocks of wheaten marans, including blue wheaten, wheaten, along with an imported line that we have NOT YET sold chicks or eggs from. We are looking forward to helping other wheaten marans breeders and fanciers with the offspring from this flock.
Unfortunately we are not able to guarantee the egg color of the hens or chicks you purchase from us. We do our best to only breed the hens laying the darkest of eggs to the roosters that have hatched from dark eggs but once in a while we do get a pullet that will lay lighter eggs.
