Cariboo Meat Bird - Created by Phoenix Farms Heritage Chickens
WE NO LONGER BREED THESE!
In the fall of 2017, we took on the Caribou Meat Bird project from Phoenix Farms. They were created by Sarah at Phoenix Farms as a home grown meat bird, made using heritage breeds known for fast growing meat qualities. 2018 will mark the 4th year of this project, and we are excited to add some of our own touches. The breeds that have contributed to the Caribou Meat Birds are sussex, maline, mistral gris and possibly 1 or 2 additions coming up, too. They have proven to be a hardy, fast growing bird that does well pastured for up to 20 weeks. They are quite different then the common white hatchery type meat bird, they are active and good foragers, which is easy on the feed bill. For 2018 we also added in some Bresse from 2 sources (Combs & Hackles & Huggin Roosters Farms) for a little diversity and amazing taste!
These lovely birds are available in Mill Bay, BC.
