Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Lacing
The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte is a rare color of Wyandotte. Wyandottes were created in the United States in the 1870's. They are a dual purpose bird, laying medium to large light/pale brown eggs and suitable for meat as well. They weigh in at 6lbs for hens and about 8 1/2 lbs for roosters. They are exceptional layers - being known to lay between 200 and 240 eggs per year.
They are gentle, docile, inquisitive and make great pets as well. The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte are considered to be a medium sized bird, and this variety is known to have bright yellow legs, and a rose comb.
Our wyandottes are very docile, easy to handle, and are great layers of light brown eggs. The hens are 6+ lbs, and the rooster is easliy 8lbs. They are a real joy to have and be around, not only because of their beautiful looks, but because of their wonderful personality. Our birds are quite tame and love a good scratch and a visit with their people. They are great layers and each give us an egg 5-6 days out of 7.
This is our fourth year breeding the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. All of our stock has been purchased from serious breeders, and our adult stock is much more true to type then what you can purchase at a hatchery. Our birds meet the weight requirements, have wonderful type and overall body shape, good combs, and very crisp coloring with the lacing clearly defined and the red is that sought after rich, mahogany red. The Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are probably our favourite here at Briarwood Poultry, because of their hardy nature, effectiveness as a dual purpose breed and their overall personality.
Our lines are our own blend of birds we have been working with for close to a decade.
